Staff Counselor, Part Time

Location: Metairie, LA

Compensation: Pay is based on relevant experience and qualifications

Job Description

We are seeking a compassionate, skilled, and dedicated Part Time Mental Health Counselor to join our team. As a counselor, you will work directly with individuals, couples, and/or families to provide therapeutic services anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship issues, life transitions, and a variety of other mental health concerns.

This is an excellent opportunity for a professional seeking flexible hours and a supportive, collaborative work environment. The ideal candidate will have a strong therapeutic presence, a commitment to helping clients achieve their personal goals, and will have experience working with a client’s spiritual beliefs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Individual Therapy: Provide one-on-one counseling for clients experiencing emotional and mental health challenges, using evidence-based therapeutic modalities (e.g., CBT, EMDR, EFT, psychodynamic therapy, etc.).
  • Assessment & Treatment Planning: Conduct thorough intake assessments, develop personalized treatment plans, and monitor progress throughout the course of therapy.
  • Client Documentation: Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in accordance with practice policies and legal standards (e.g., progress notes, treatment plans, etc.).
  • Collaboration: Work closely with the staff at Full Life, including other counselors, office staff, and referral sources, to ensure clients receive the highest level of care and support.
  • Crisis Intervention: Respond appropriately to client crises and provide referrals when necessary to ensure client safety and well-being.
  • Ongoing Professional Development: Stay current with best practices in mental health counseling through continuing education, workshops, and supervision.
  • Group Therapy (Optional): Develop and facilitate group therapy sessions for clients who benefit from peer support and shared learning experiences.

Qualifications

  • Licensure: Must hold a valid license in the state of Louisiana as a Provisionally Licensed Professional Counselor (PLPC), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Provisionally Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (PLMFT), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), or similar mental health credential.
  • Experience: Minimum of 1-2 years of experience providing mental health counseling, with a preference for candidates who have experience in a private practice setting.
  • Specializations (Preferred): Experience with specific populations (e.g., children and adolescents, trauma survivors, couples therapy) is a plus.
  • Skills & Abilities:
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Ability to work independently and manage a caseload.
    • Proficiency in clinical documentation and use of electronic health records (EHR) systems.
    • Familiarity with a variety of therapeutic techniques and approaches.
  • Personal Qualities:
    • Empathetic, non-judgmental, and culturally competent.
    • Strong commitment to client confidentiality and ethical practice.
