Choosing to come to counseling is one of the bravest decisions that you will ever make. I know it can feel scary to meet and open up to a stranger, and it is my goal to ensure your emotional safety so that opening up to someone does not feel so scary anymore. I am honored that you are considering me to walk with you in your healing journey, but I also know that this is a big decision. Let me tell you more about myself to help you determine if I would be a good fit for you.

At the foundation of who I am and what I do is my faith in Jesus. I believe that without Him, I can just simply give you bandaids that won’t really heal the wounds you have. I do not assume that all clients will share my beliefs, and I do not force any belief onto a client, but please be aware that my faith informs all that I do and say in the counseling room.

What I Offer in Counseling

A listening ear

Sometimes that is all we need, right? I will listen without judgment and allow you to process as much as you need, but I will also, when the time is right, provide feedback and gently challenge you when needed.

A person-centered, integrative, and eclectic approach

I will tailor therapy to you, your personality, your strengths and weaknesses, and your goals. I do not rigidly follow one specific type of therapy unless that would serve you in the best way. I most often pull techniques, principles, and interventions from various forms of therapy. I integrate theology, spirituality, and psychology into practice as I believe that they complement one another in beautiful ways. Some of the types of therapy that I use most are:

Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy

Art Therapy

Brief Solution-Focused Therapy

Narrative Therapy

Trauma-focused CBT

Story-Informed Trauma Work

Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

Creativity

Some of my favorite sessions have been when we have gotten creative. If I believe that creative activities may be helpful for you, we may get out paint or colored pencils or the sand tray. Healing can happen in fun ways, too!

Trauma-informed Counseling

I enjoy working with women, teenagers, and older children who have been abused and/or experienced other types of trauma in their life. I have seen many come out of trauma and rise to wholeness and health on the other side. I am trauma-informed and trauma-trained, so I am comfortable working with various forms of trauma.

My Mission & Purpose as a Counselor

My mission in this one life that I have been given is to walk alongside broken people on their road to healing, listening and giving insight when I can to help them continue toward healing and wholeness. My calling is summed up like this,

The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me,

because the Lord has anointed me

To bring good news to the poor;

he has sent me to bind up the broken-hearted,

To proclaim liberty to the captives,

and the opening of the prison to those who are bound; …

To comfort all who mourn; to grant those who mourn in Zion-

To give them a beautiful headdress instead of ashes,

The oil of gladness instead of mourning.

The garment of praise instead of a faint spirit;

That they may be called oaks of righteousness,

the planting of the Lord,

That he may be glorified.

-Isaiah 61:1-3, ESV

Lagniappe (A little bit about me)

I grew up in North Louisiana, and I spread my wings (well, kind of) when I decided to move to Baton Rouge for college. I loved my time at LSU, and I consider those years to be some of the most formative in my life. I then moved here, and my family and I have lived right outside of New Orleans for twelve years. I graduated from the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary with my Masters in Marriage and Family Counseling in 2013. I worked at a nonprofit agency in Luling for seven years before coming to Full Life.

When I am not counseling or doing the mom things, I write and host Be Known, the podcast. I also write a monthly column for The Lafourche Gazette. I have always been passionate about writing. It’s where I feel most at home. Much of what I write translates to what I help people do in the counseling room, so it has been fun to “marry” the two. Interested in seeing more of what I write? You can check out our Full Life blog.
