Welcome!  I might be a good fit for you if you’ve ever asked yourself a question like the following:

Why can’t I shake this feeling?

Why do I keep doing the same things over and over again?

If this sounds familiar, then I’d love to hear your story and help you unpack your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors so that you can stop merely surviving and, instead, start thriving.

See, here’s what I believe.  We all have a story to tell.  And, instead of knowing our story and owning the good and hard parts, we are often still living in reaction to pain from our past.  What’s worse is we’re usually told to move on and forget.  There’s a catch, though.  Moving on without processing means we usually find ourselves in cycles of depression and anger and don’t even know why.  No one has given us permission to connect the dots.

I’m giving you permission to connect the dots and explore your story in a way that provides meaning, understanding, and freedom.  Freedom from your past.  And, freedom to make wise choices for your future.

How I Approach Therapy

Before we begin unpacking your story, we must first make sure we have all the tools and support necessary for the journey.  Once this happens we will move through your story with intention and curiosity.  I will use a handful of different theories and techniques to navigate and help clarify moments of time and lessons learned.  I won’t lie, this process is lengthy and not always fun.  But, I truly believe healing is on the other side of this journey and I would love to help you find it.

Areas of Focus

I see adult clients and I have experience working with the following:

Adult adoptees and parents who have adopted

Various traumas

Church hurt & spiritual questions

Grief

Depression & anxiety

Couple’s counseling

Burnout

A Little of My Story

I was grateful to be at Restoration Counseling.  Grateful for the favor God had given me there.  I was even more grateful for the friendships I had built.  I never intended to leave.  Yet, God had different plans.

Seven years of loving where I was and what I was doing, God placed a foreign thought in my mind, “I don’t want to be here.”  This wasn’t just an “I don’t want to be here because I’m tired, bored, or worried.”  This was a new feeling, almost an “I’m not suppose to be here.”  Unsure of this thought’s origin (because, let’s be honest, sometimes its hard to distinguish God’s voice from our own), I asked the Lord to tell Ashley (my boss/friend at that time) that I needed to leave if the thought was really from Him.

In my next conversation with Ashley she said, “God told me that I needed to give you permission to go.”

Why are we so surprised when God answers?

I wish I could convey the joy and sorrow and grandness of that moment.  Just know I still remember it clearly.  A life changing moment.

I tell you this story because 1) it’s just so amazing to me how God works all things together and 2) (as you’ve already figured out by now) I believe our stories are important.

Closing Thoughts

So, as you decide where to go and who to see, I encourage you to think through who’s story you want to impact your own.  Every counselor brings something unique to the table and, whether intentional or not, the counselor you choose will become a character in your story.  So, count the cost and know that entering into a counseling relationship is no small task.  It will require time, resources, work, and most of all emotional energy.

If you think I would be a good fit for you, I’d love to meet you and explore your story.  We all hold pain and trials amidst God’s goodness.  I feel honored anytime I get to hear others’ stories because I know nothing is lost or unimportant when God is in the details.
